Slip and Fall Prevention Using Non-Active Biocatalysts

Up to 9 million disabling slip and fall accidents each year (that’s 25,000 per day), are attributed to slip and fall accidents by the National Safety Council.

Unfortunately, many facilities neglect to consider the environmental component of falls. This attitude ignores the one environmental component that all employees and visitors alike come into contact with: the floor, where the application of Non-Active Biocatalysts as Eco-Clean can solve the problem.

According to a study conducted by the Liberty Mutual Research Institute, contaminants on the floor are the leading cause of slip, trip and fall accidents in healthcare facilities. The National Floor Safety Institute (NFSI) documents that 55 percent of all slip and fall incidents are caused in some way by the floor, versus footwear, obstacles, lighting and lack of safety signage.

Additionally the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE), has found that slip and fall accidents are the second leading cause of on-the-job deaths, second only to automobile accidents. The U.S. Department of Labor states that 15% of workplace deaths are caused by slips, trips and falls.

There are two traditional approaches to this problem:

Change the Flooring Surface. It is evident that a slip resistant floor is going to help, but changing the floor involves substantial additional cost. A carpet is a lot harder to keep clean, while treating the floor means a much less attractive floor.

Use the proper cleaning compound. The use of inadequate cleaning compounds results not from staff errors or improper training, but rather from the use of chemical dispersants like detergents, disinfectants, sanitizers, vinegar, bacterial and enzymatic products, activated or electrolytic water, or steam.

But only a new solution: Use a non-active biocatalyst to clean the floor. These products will clean, degrease and deodorize without rinsing, maintain a shiny floor without wax, polymers or other products and provide adequate traction, provided that a daily maintenance protocol is followed, which will not require occasional deep cleaning.

This is the way to have a perfect floor and constitutes the most effective defense against high workers compensation claims, liability insurance and/or lawsuits.
